More good advice from the right reverend blind gary davis, who like Von played a gibson j200 jumbo acoustic guitar, but who unlike von johin was the master fingerpicker of blues. von does a bit of fingerpicking but mostly tends to flat-pick and combine the sound of the finger-style work with that of a bluegrass trained flat-picking boy.

This is von’s tribute to the rev gary davis, played dec 5th in is weekly show at johin’s blue note club. fresh set of strings on this one, so a note or two turns sour toward the end as the strings got their stretch on, but the love for the rev is there, tuned finely or not. the rev gary davis is jorma’s biggest influence, and jorma is johin’s biggest influence and a good pal in real life.
